These photos were sent to us by one of our shelter dome clients. They show a successful dome-raising which took place in an Oregon back yard last October. Our client was lucky enough to have some friends and family over who all pitched in for a weekend of work. The 30 ft. shelter dome, a Tropical Plus deluxe package, was erected next to the main house on the property and will be attached to it as an additional living space. Plans for the inside include building a loft as well as making separate rooms.

The construction project began with building a deck for the whole structure. On top of the deck they built a 33 inch riser wall. They put the frame together using the top-down method and then lifted it up onto the riser wall. The client installed pre-hung doors at both openings to create traditional rectangular shaped entrances.

The next day, many hands worked together to lift the cover onto the structure and work it down over the frame. After that, they zipped the bay window into place. In the photo below, you can see what the cover and window look like right after they are put on. When the sun comes out and warms up the material, the skin will shrink to a tighter, smoother fit and the bay window will be clear.

It was a good thing they raised the dome when they did because the winter weather hit shortly afterward. Despite some nasty ice and snow, the dome has held up really well according to our clients. They are looking forward to some milder weather so they can spray on the Thermoshield and finish the interior. Soon these domeowners will be able to enjoy the feel of their new space, one that they put together with their own hands! Stay tuned for more photos as their project progresses…
